Hector Bilbao, founder of 86

I built 86 for my own restaurant first.

86 started at Zaco's Tacos in Puerto Rico. I was still doing inventory myself every week, and none of the big-name tools were built for a place like mine. So I built something that was.

1

Bought a restaurant, inherited the chaos.

I bought Zaco's Tacos thinking I could handle everything with hustle. I was wrong. Inventory, ordering, finances — it was stress, guesswork, and Sunday night anxiety.

2

Tried spreadsheets and manual systems.

Spreadsheets helped for a month. Then versions got messy, updates lagged, and I was still chasing people to count.

3

Tested the big-name tools.

I tried the big-name tools — R365, MarketMan, MarginEdge, Wisk. Too expensive, too complex, or the mobile app was terrible. None of them were built for a place like mine.

4

Built 86 for my own team.

So I built my own. My bartender counted 200 items in 40 minutes on his first try. No training. That's when I knew it worked.

5

Opened it up to other operators.

One of my employees said 'You should sell this.' So I did. Now I answer my own support messages and build what independent owners actually need.

I still use 86 every week at Zaco’s. The goal for every owner who signs up is the same:

Know the work is handled, even when you’re away from the restaurant.

How We Build

One system, not modules bolted together.

A count updates inventory. An invoice updates costs. Costs update recipes. Sales reconcile with your bank. You don't stitch that together — it already is.

Founder-to-founder support.

I still answer my own support messages. No tiers, no tickets routed through three teams — you're talking to the person who built it and uses it every week.

For independents, not enterprises.

86 is built for owner-operators and small teams, not procurement departments. Every decision we make starts with one question: would this work at Zaco's?

One plan. Setup included.

$299/mo. Unlimited team members. The AI sets up your real inventory and vendors before you log in. Cancel online anytime with one click.

I always got blamed for counting errors. We switched to the app and magically I'm no longer the problem.

I used to have to hunt down Hector for the count sheet. We usually ended up using the old one. Now with the app it takes me about 40 mins max.
